I filed an RTI application and the PIO denied the information citing section 8 of the RTI Act. How can I appeal against this decision? What are the grounds for appeal?

Know the practical answer?

You can file a first appeal under section 19(1) of the RTI Act, stating the grounds for appeal. You need to provide a justification for why the information should be disclosed and why the PIO's decision was incorrect.

You can appeal against the PIO's decision, but you need to provide new information that was not available at the time of filing the original application.

The appeal should be filed within 30 days of the PIO's decision. You need to provide a copy of the original application and the PIO's decision.

You should have filed the application under the right category, now you have to file a fresh application.
