I need a copy of my FIR for court proceedings. Can I get it under the RTI Act? What is the process, and what are the chances of getting it?

Know the practical answer?

Yes, you can file an RTI application under §6(1) to the PIO of the police station, asking for a copy of your FIR. You can cite the Subhash Chandra Agarwal v CPIO SC 2019 case, which allows for the disclosure of the FIR copy for court proceedings.

The PIO might deny the information, citing §8(1)(h), but you can argue that the FIR copy is required for court proceedings, and the information can't be denied under this clause.
