Passport Delay at RPO

AnswerRequest

I applied for a passport 2 months ago at the Regional Passport Office (RPO) in Delhi. My file number is DL001234. I have not received any update on the status of my application. I tried calling the RPO, but they are not responding. What can I do to get an update on my application? Can I file an RTI to know the status?

Know the practical answer?

You can file an RTI application under §6(1) of the RTI Act 2005 to the RPO, asking for the current status of your passport application. You can also ask for the reasons for the delay.

Before filing an RTI, try to check the status of your application on the official website of the RPO or through the mPassport Seva app. If you are not getting any update, then you can file an RTI.

The RPO is not responding to your calls, so it's better to file a complaint with the Ministry of External Affairs. They will look into the matter and provide you with an update.

As per the Bhagat Singh v CIC 2007 case, you have the right to know the status of your passport application. File an RTI application and ask for the status, and also ask for the timeline for the completion of the application process.
