Success Story - Getting Information through Second Appeal

I filed an RTI application with the PIO of a government hospital to get information about the number of patients treated in the hospital. The PIO replied, but the information was incomplete. I filed a first appeal, but the FAA did not provide a satisfactory order. I then filed a second appeal with the CIC, which directed the PIO to provide the complete information. I finally received the information after a long battle. What are the key takeaways from my experience?

Your experience highlights the importance of perseverance in seeking information under the RTI Act. The CIC's direction to the PIO to provide the complete information is a testament to the effectiveness of the second appeal process. You may want to share your experience with others to encourage them to use the RTI Act to seek information.

The CIC's decision in your case is in line with the provisions of §19(8) of the RTI Act, which empowers the CIC to direct the PIO to provide the information. Your case also demonstrates the importance of citing relevant case law, such as the decision in Bhagat Singh v CIC (2007), to support your arguments.

The RTI Act provides a mechanism for citizens to seek information, and the second appeal process is an important part of this mechanism. Your experience shows that the second appeal process can be effective in getting the information, even if the PIO and FAA do not provide a satisfactory response.
