PIO Refusal for Polling Booth Details
I filed an RTI with the district collector asking for the details of the polling booth in my area, including the location and the number of voters. However, the PIO refused to provide the information citing §8(1)(j) of the RTI Act. Is this justified?

Answers
3 answersThe PIO's refusal is not justified. The details of the polling booth are public information and can be disclosed under the RTI Act. You can file an appeal under §19(1) of the RTI Act, citing the Girish Deshpande 2013 case.
The PIO is right in refusing the information. The details of the polling booth can be sensitive and may compromise the security of the voters.
You can try filing an RTI with the election commission instead. They may be more willing to provide the information.
