Hello, I am from a below poverty line family in rural Maharashtra. I want to file an RTI to get information about the ration card scheme. Do I need to pay the ₹10 fee? If yes, how can I pay it? Can I get an exemption?

As per the RTI Act 2005, BPL families are exempted from paying the application fee. You can submit your BPL certificate along with your RTI application to avail the exemption. §7(1) of the RTI Act 2005 allows for the exemption of fee for BPL families.

You don't need to pay the fee at all. The RTI Act 2005 provides for free filing of RTI applications for all citizens.

You need to pay the ₹10 fee, but you can pay it through an IPO or DD. You can also get an exemption if you submit your BPL certificate.
