I filed an RTI with the election commission asking for the details of the electoral rolls in my constituency. However, the PIO refused to provide the information citing §8(1)(j) of the RTI Act. I want to file an appeal with the election commission. Can someone guide me on how to do this?

Know the practical answer?

You can file an appeal under §19(1) of the RTI Act, citing the Girish Deshpande 2013 case. Make sure to provide the details of your RTI application and the PIO's refusal. You can send the appeal to the election commission office in your state.

You can also file an appeal online through the election commission website. The process is the same and you can upload the required documents.

I filed an appeal with the election commission but they dismissed it. What can I do now?
