Does mutation prove that I own the property?

No. Mutation updates the revenue record and matters for paying land/property tax, but it does not by itself establish legal ownership or title. Title flows from your registered sale deed, gift deed or succession documents. Mutation is still important because an up-to-date record makes future sales, loans and dealings far smoother.
